HOW TO GET WHAT YOU WANT IN LIFE

We all have dreams and goals. We all have a vision for our life and an idea of where we should be in our life at any given time. 


As Tony Robbins teaches, this is the blueprint of our life. A predetermined idea of what we think our life should be like. When our lives don’t match our blueprint, we feel stressed, anxious, unhappy and imbalanced. Sometimes we might even feel like a failure.

So how do you reach your goals and get what you want in life? How do we become successful? These are questions that we ask ourselves from time to time. The reality is that just because we have a personal blueprint of our life, it doesn’t mean that is exactly what our life will turn out like. The reality is also that we are not in control of everything in this Universe (that might come as a shocker to some). Some things are simply out of our control and that is okay. We don’t have to have every detail figured out. There is something magical about life, knowing that there are some wonderful coincidences that we didn’t plan.


However, there are certain outcomes and situations in life that you can control. You CAN take the proper steps to get closer to your dreams and get what you want – when you take the proper steps.

Idea/goal/vision: First, you need an idea, goal or at least a vision for your life. Maybe it’s to make a certain amount of money or land a certain prestigious position with a corner office at the most sought after firm in the city.

It might be just to not have to work a regular 9-5 job and have a more flexible schedule where you work from home or where ever you are.

Maybe your dream is to sit on the couch and watch tv.

Your dream or vision could even be as big as building a fortune 100 company and writing a book on the NY Times best sellers list.

Whatever your vision or goal for your life is, you need one. And it needs to be concise with what you really want. Write it down. Don’t be afraid to dream big. This part should be fun. Day-dreaming about your future, where you see yourself, what you want out of life or even better, what you can offer to life. Once you make up your mind to do something, the universe conspires to make it happen.

Education: Next, you need to educate yourself. Whether you pick up a book on the subject you want to learn, get on the internet and research, take college courses and get a degree, it doesn’t matter. You need to educate yourself. You have to make a plan and do as much research as is needed to feel comfortable and confident to pursue those ideas and goals. You need to find out what the steps are to reach your goals or attain something. Get an overall idea of what it is going to take to reach the outcome you want.

For instance, if you want to own your own business then you may need to take some college business courses. You will probably need to get certain legal and licensing matters taken care of like going downtown to the county courthouse and registering your business name, then opening a business account at the bank with your d.b.a. (does business as) so you can run a legal and legitimate business. I would want to find out what I need to do to make my business successful and research all the steps that it takes to run the kind of business that I want to have. I would find out what kind of specific training and education I needed to run my business legally. How much money do I need, if any? This list goes on. Do your research. Find out as much as you can about what it will take you to reach your goal successfully. 

Balance and alignment: Now would be a good time to stand back and take an overall assessment of your goals and what it will take to meet those. Next, you need to ask yourself, “does my life align properly with reaching my goals”? “Do my goals align properly with the life I am living”? If the answer to either of these questions is no, then It would be a good idea to bring some balance and alignment in your life.

If you know you want to get up early, go to the gym and reach a goal of an ideal weight or look but, you party hard and late every night and the amount of alcohol you consume is enough to kill a horse, then reaching your goal may be a little harder. You have to assess the situation, realign and balance your life to align with your goals. That would mean cutting back on the late nights and partying to minimum if not all together.

If your family needs you at home more and you are a workaholic, then you may need to figure out a way to balance the two and still be satisfied.

If you really want your own place but your spending is out of control, then you need to create a budget, find out how much it will cost to get it and then stick to your budget.

You have to figure out what your balance is because everyone’s is different. I could go on and on with examples of how one’s life could be out of balance and how to realign it but, I think you get the picture and I think most of us can relate to these examples in some way. We all have a choice, so you have to make the balanced decisions to get the balanced life. It’s a give and take kind of thing. As I always tells my older son, “everything in moderation”. 

 

Follow your heart and stick with things you are attracted to. The universe has a way of giving you exactly what you think about. If you spend your time thinking about what makes you happy, your passions, dreams and gravitate towards people and situations you are attracted to, the Universe puts more of it in your path. Because we all know what happens when you constantly think negative, when you constantly think about what you don’t want and gravitate towards not so ideal people or situations, you get a whole lot more of all of that stuff. The same principle applies to both positive and negative. Both good and bad. What you give power to in your mind, has power over you. So focus on what and who makes you happy. Focus on creating more ideal situations and possibilities to do what makes you happy and be around people who you truly enjoy and watch as the universe gives you more and more of that (you) energy. This is called the law of attraction but, we’ll talk more about that another time. That could take up a whole other post. 

Go after it. Take action. You can’t get anywhere in this world if you don’t put in the effort and take action. Once you have gone through the previous steps.

Go!

Move!

Run if you need to.

Go after your dreams. Don’t be scared. Don’t second guess yourself. Just do it. Did I just sound like Nike? I think I did. But really, just go for it. Don’t let anything or anyone stand in your way. The only way to true happiness is from within, right? So start there. You will never be happy living a life that you don’t want, so what a better place to start than right with yourself. If you were ever going to take action about something in your life, why not your future and happiness? The same effort goes in either way. Effort to be sad and miserable or the effort to be happy and fulfilled. The more you do the things that you truly want and that truly make you happy, you will see in amazement how you will get more and more of these beautiful, magical, ideal situations just unfold in front of you. It is amazing how powerful the power of thought can be. 

Remember to stay positive because your attitude is a very little thing that can make a big difference in this transformational journey. Enjoy the ride!
